Heck, it was the latest update that finally made me decide to review it, because even now 5 years after the game is launched, they're taking the time to really make this game as good as it can possibly be. Progressing through the tiers feels satisfying, and re-embarking for completion feels good.Īnd the ACE mod, which is still ongoing, is a fantastic expansion to the base game and really fleshes it out. It's possible to make really interesting, gorgeous and unique cities, with clever use of not just decorations but "pixel art theory" (I have no other way to describe this technique heh) making these buildings made from simple square blocks really pop.

Once you get the hang of how to build in this game, there's literally nothing like it. No other game scratches a building itch quite like this one. From that particular perspective it's absolutely a pain and tough to recommend, because there have been days I've gotten so furious with it just refusing to cooperate that I've had to set it aside or go make a cup of tea. Buildings may or may not build and you have to force-build them or debug-delete a ladder that won't deconstruct. It's one of my top five games in hours played.īut until now I've struggled to recommend it. I was an original backer, and since then I have put a *lot* of time into it.

So I've mused over reviewing this game for a long time.
